HBO shared a great video behind the life of Damon Lindelof and his original love for not just comic books in general, but for ‘Watchmen’ in particular. It began when he was a child and his father took him to a comic book convention in search of a list of comic issues.
Turns out, when his father was a child, he had all of his comic books thrown away by his mother. Not in a fit of rage or punishment, but while he was at camp his mother just thought it was clutter in his closet. He told himself one day he would reclaim his collection.
So, while Damon is a child, they wind up searching for this list of comics that his dad gave him and it turns out, he found every single one. Now, his father wanted to share his love of comics with his son and gave him ‘Watchmen’ telling him, “you’re not ready for this” and walked out the door.
Turns out, Damon wasn’t ready and the story blew his mind. He and his father would sit around discussing the comic for hours.
“Creator Damon Lindelof talks about his childhood love of comic books. Based on the graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC, Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Lost) creates a modern-day reimagining of Alan Moore’s groundbreaking graphic novel about the masked vigilante.”
