British royal family news has revealed that Prince William has shown the England soccer manager around the Sandringham Estate, as the two spoke about mental health in the sport. The discussion was filmed as part of the Heads Up Campaign in a film that will air before the Heads Up FA Cup final later this afternoon.
Prince William has been working tirelessly throughout lockdown to talk about our mental health, while his Heads Up Campaign has been the focal point of his efforts to increase awareness throughout the soccer season. His determination to open discussions about the taboo subject also saw him work hard to change the name of the FA Cup final this weekend.
British Royal Family News: Gareth Southgate Welcomed To Sandringham
Prince William welcomed Gareth Southgate to Sandringham earlier this week to talk all things mental health, and how the coronavirus pandemic has played a part in the number of people that have found issues. The two also spoke at length about the role that soccer can have in helping the number of people that are suffering from mental health issues to come forward.
William revealed during the discussion that he is hopeful that there has been a shift in talking about our mental health over the past 12 months. Southgate has also battled against mental health issues throughout his career. William was keen to get a greater understanding on Southgate’s mental health after he had missed the vital penalty in a shootout defeat to Germany in the semi-finals of the 1996 European Championships.
British Royal Family News: Southgate Talks Pressures
Southgate revealed that he struggled to deal with the pressure of missing that penalty, and revealed that he felt as though he let his teammates down. The semi-final defeat was the closest that England have come to reaching a major final since they won the World Cup in 1966. Southgate is likely to be at Wembley this afternoon for the FA Cup final.
However, it is unlikely that William will be in attendance as he is currently enjoying a holiday with the rest of his family. The prince usually attends the FA Cup final every season as he is the head of the Football Association and typically hands out the winners’ medals to the winning team.
