Coming July 21 at 10 PM is a new ‘Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel‘ as he interviews Superior Court Judge Craig Mitchell, who is the founder of LA’s Skid Row Run Club. The club helps individuals with past drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and criminals who are looking to turn their life around.

Running has long been a form of therapy that allows people to work through complex problems as they push their body to its physical limits. It’s at these points that many drugs are released, including endorphins, and things that may have been causing stress and bothering you are taken care of or allows you to think clearer and work through issues you may have.

Mitchell explains why he started the club was because in his job he is held to the responsibility of locking criminals up and oftentimes without help or being able to extend any other form of therapy that people may need. The running club allows people to have an outlet and avoid any destructive decisions or life choices.

In the show, we hear from three members of the team who have all had issues being in and out of jail and how the running club has helped them stay out of trouble and be productive members of society. This definitely sounds like a show worth seeing and showing off the excellent source of mental health running can be, aside from its obvious positive physical health.
