British royal family news has revealed that Queen Elizabeth is set to have her first face-to-face meeting since the lockdown regulations were eased. There have been many adjustments to the regulations in place, and now it appears as though the Queen is ready to return to normal life, and there is set to be a very special celebration.
The Queen hasn’t partaken in any face-to-face meetings for the last four months, but that will change as it has been revealed that Her Majesty will honour the achievements of Captain Tom Moore this week. The World War Two veteran will visit Windsor Castle to receive his knighthood from Queen Elizabeth herself.
British Royal Family News: Special Day For Veteran
It promises to be an emotional day, as Captain Tom is honoured for his achievements. There had been a petition online urging for politicians to recognise the excellent fundraising that Moore had been doing throughout the period of lockdown by giving him a deserved knighthood. Those please were eventually heard, as Tom was announced to receive the honour last month.
However, the date that he would receive the honour wasn’t finalised due to the restrictions in place across the United Kingdom. The Queen recognised that the moment is important for those receiving the honour and agreed that the date should be pushed back until they could receive the honour in person. It would now seem as though Moore will become Sir Captain Tom Moore at some point this week.
British Royal Family News: Incredible Achievement From Moore
Moore captured the imagination of the country during the early stages of the lockdown as he set about raising money for the NHS. He surpassed his target in a matter of hours, as users on social media shared his story. He tasked himself with walking 100 laps of his garden in celebration of his upcoming 100th birthday.
Moore eventually raised over £30 million for the NHS and his story gained international headlines. In a statement released from Buckingham Palace, it was revealed that the knighthood would be received on Friday when the Queen welcomes Moore to Windsor Castle.
