CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers hello everyone and welcome to today’s throwback spoilers, brought to you by CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers. This episode comes to us from October 6, 2006, and features a young Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) struggling with his hearing loss as he deals with situations and people around him.
It’s a cool episode as we get to see Devon push through the boundaries of his limitations to express himself when he feels betrayed at having people lie to him to protect him. It’s a great episode and performance, so let’s grab some snacks and drinks, and away we go.
CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers Throwback For June 24: Protection of who?
Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) arrived home in the middle of the day with a box full of items and she told Devon and Lily Winters (Davetta Sherwood) she only cleaned out her desk and it didn’t mean anything. To further explain, she typed a message on the computer that she took a leave of absence to be home with Devon and take an intensive sign language class. Devon, of course, wasn’t happy that Drucilla sacrificed her job for him. He left the room, none the wiser as yet that Drucilla had lied to him about being fired. This is something that could blow up big time, and CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers expect that to happen right about here…
CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers Throwback For June 24: Devon Struggles with his Hearing LossThe frustrating truth
Devon eventually learned that Drucilla lied to him, but he understood that she was embarrassed, so he turned the focus of his anger on Carmen Mesta (Marisa Ramirez) for causing this mess. After he confronted Carmen to no avail as she continued to claim Drucilla scared her — he even went so far to point out Carmen had gone after a married man and asked what kind of nut job she was. That went over well, so when Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) arrived it saved things from devolving further as Carmen stormed out. When they were leaving, Devon wanted to take a taxi but Neil insisted on taking him home. This was where all of Devon’s frustration boiled over as he felt his family was smothering him by trying to protect him from anything and everything out there.
It’s something that many of us are forced to deal with on one level or another, as it’s easy to want to protect those we care about from the evils of the world. It’s especially easy to smother someone if they have a handicap or are injured. The trick is to know when to pull back and trust that they can take care of themselves. It’s a lesson we never stop learning. This is another excellent episode we’re treated to this week, and its message is an important one. It also begs the question, when do we back away and let someone we care about go?
