TLC ’90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days’ Spoilers finds that we got to see Usman Umar finally get down on one knee and propose to Lisa Hamme. However it was not without its drama. Lisa and Usman started out arguing and disagreeing with each other. It was a continuation from the last time we had seen the two together. They had gotten into a fight the night before over one of the many “females” that Usman had texting him on social media. Lisa had seen in his phone where he had said “I love you.” to a female fan and it had incensed her even though, at this point I think that’s just kind of a formality that Usman hands out to his female fans. Like, “Have a nice day.” or “How’s the weather?” considering how often that he does it. Still, considering he’s getting married he might consider changing the salutation to something a little less… inclusive. Like the old 90’s ‘LYLAS’ which means, “Love ya like a sister!”
Lisa was mad and issued him an ultimatum in their hotel room, she said that it was her last night there and he should have proposed by now, then she got up and threatened to leave. Usman told the producer that he had done all that he could in regards to the relationship, but then we saw a surprising turn around from this guy. After going out and talking with Lisa in the hallway and telling her that the reason why he didn’t propose last night was because they were having problems and because he didn’t want to propose like that, Lisa seemed to be sufficiently talked down. She went to go find a hairbrush in the bathroom and when she came back out, Usman was down on one knee, with the ring in his hand! Awww! And here I thought he was going to pull a complete yahoo boy and wimp out! Nope, Usman’s intentions were actually real and he actually proposed. I’m shocked, and a little proud.

But then later that night when they were supposed to meet Usman’s brothers to discuss this announcement the whole entire tone changed. Lisa decided to try and get some family help on her side because I guess she thought telling the women in the family about their issues wouldn’t help any so she decided to enlist the help of the people that she knew Usman listened to the most, his older brothers. I think this is the fastest I’ve ever seen an otherwise joyful occasion just crumble into a screaming match. Lisa lost her cool when his brothers did not automatically take her side, the thing is she doesn’t understand that in this culture, what they were doing is the norm.
Of course they’re not going to take her side over Usman’s. They’re going to be loyal to their brother. One brother has met Lisa one time prior to this and the other brother has only met her this one time so if her objective was to get them on her side then this was not the way to do it. When Usman said that “This is not the way of Nigerian woman.” he was right, arguably Nigerian women do not handle things this way. I’m going to be honest and say that I seriously don’t know how a muslim, Nigerian woman would handle this situation, I am not well-versed in that culture. I’m not even sure that his brothers realized what the actual problem between Lisa and Usman actually is, because for one thing Lisa lost her cool and did not explain well, and their advice seemed like they didn’t even know what was going on. Maybe all were the victim of bad editing though.
