CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that one of the fun things fans love about new characters appearing in shows is the bonds they have with established characters but also the turmoil and chaos that nearly always ensues. On the second day of the Winters family theme, we get to see another new introduction as Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) makes his first appearance in Genoa City and tries to rebuild his relationship with his half-brother, Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John).
Originally airing on May 6, 1994, this episode takes us into the relationship between an established character and a new one that’s new as they try to rebuild their trust in each other. It’s a reused archetype in daytime television, but it’s one that never gets old if done right, and was definitely done right.

CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers Throwback For May 19: Premiering
This episode marks the premiere of Malcolm and Shemar Moore in what would become one of the most memorable family relationships we’ve seen. As usual, the arriving family member is the one looking to reconcile the relationship, to which Neil is resistant to. Malcolm will be intent on rebuilding their relationship, and Neil will eventually agree, conceding it’s important for the family to be given a second chance. It’s the first step in what’ll be a… the interesting ongoing relationship for the two. While the real fun between these two begins after this, it’s cool to see the start to one of the more memorable brother-to-brother relationships on daytime television.
CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers Throwback For May 19: Daytime’s Trap
It’s been a while since Malcolm graced Genoa City with his presence, so CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers thought it’d be fun to look at Malcolm’s more interesting moments.
While he quickly becomes a photographer of not in Genoa City, Malcolm also causes a little mayhem here and there. Malcolm did what every soap character does: he went after a family member’s wife. In short, he managed to get Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) pregnant after raping her.
Seriously, daytime television has a notorious knack from embracing the incestuous type of nature of family members sharing spouses. They’re like the Wall Street of Family Exchange. The saving grace here, if one can call it that, is this wasn’t consensual like usually happens. It does point to an interesting and dark habit on these shows at one point to rely on rape to establish characters or grow relationships. We’re not sure how often it happened, but we’re grateful they moved away from using it as a plot device to create relationships. What are your thoughts? Are you looking forward to Malcolm’s return?
