TLC 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Day finds that Big Ed Brown seems to be a genuinely nice guy. Not a guy with ‘nice guy syndrome’ (thank God) but a genuinely nice human being who just wants to find love and happiness for himself. And he has proven himself willing to go through a lot of lengths to get that happiness in love, including spending $5,000 in gifts and traveling all the way to the Phillipines in order to meet Rosemarie, the woman who he considers the current love of his life.
TLC 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Day – Is Rosemarie legit?
But Rosemarie has been doing some things that are just not okay. At least not by American standard, excuse me, but I am not personally familiar with Filipino customs, so if this is a normal thing in that country, please, someone feel free to correct me. But I have never heard of it ever being okay to just grab from someone’s wallet and to tell the vendor “Keep the change!” when it’s not actually your money. I get that Rosemarie thinks that they are to be married soon and maybe that is just customary in their culture if the husband is the primary breadwinner… however if that be the case then it should have been explained to poor Ed beforehand because he’s sitting there flabbergasted and I personally don’t blame him.
TLC 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Day – No means no, Rosemarie
He told her that it wasn’t okay to just go grabbing from his wallet, publicly. I’m not for making a scene as much as the next guy but I thnk in this instance, Ed was right. Anyone would have been offended if someone grabbed money from their wallet and told the vendor to keep the change. It’s one thing to do that if you’re a child that doesn’t know any better, I could totally see Rosemarie’s little boy doing that because he’s four and wouldn’t know the difference. But Rosemarie is an adult and she helps her sister run a business, she knows exactly where money comes from and what it takes to make it. Ed may be incredibly rich by her standard of living but that doesn’t give her, or anyone, the right to go digging in his pockets.
TLC 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Day – Culture or rudeness?
Unless I missed something, there were other couples in the marketplace that day and I did not observe this kind of behavior among them. Now, again, there was a ton of people so I could have missed something and I may just not be familiar with the way Rosemarie’s culture is, but it didn’t look to me like there were any women digging through their man’s pockets for money and telling the shopkeeper to ‘keep the change’. Obviously, Rosemarie wanted to show off that she had a wealthy man but is that really all that wise?
TLC 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Day – Flashing cash is a surefire way to get mugged in any part of the world
I’m not sure of the crime rate in the Phillipines, specifically where Rosemarie lives, but it looks to me like flashing cash around like that is sure to attract someone of the unsavory variety. In most places it’s not advisable to go advertising that you’re rich and can afford stuff because even in the safest of places you can always get mugged. Flashing cash in an extremely public place is a surefire way to get mugged, whatever side of the globe that you’re on.
TLC 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Day – If she knows about what her sister asked Ed, does that mean she’s lying?
Also, if she knows about her sister’s plea for money (which, I’m not entirely sure she does), wouldn’t she want to save whatever money she could for her sister’s business? Unless she just has no concept of Ed’s level of income which could very well be. I mean, it wouldn’t be the first time a guy has lied about his income on 90 day Fiancé (Here’s looking at you, Robert!) or she is just unfamiliar with the exchange rate of dollars to pesos. (Apparently, one report says that the money she took from Ed is in the ballpark of $1-$3 so the amount is kind of negligible but the gesture is still alarming.) Also, there was the endearing fact that she actually wanted to buy him a hawaiian shirt so that he would feel more comfortable. That was sweet.
TLC 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Day – Ed lied too!
While Ed did lie about his height, I honestly don’t tihnk he’d lie about something as important as income, especially considering the fact that he runs his own busness and he has to keep track of business expenses. He’s a successful photographer in California where the cost of living is pretty high, I really don’t think he’d jeopardize his way of life for someone he had only been with three months. At the risk of giving him too much credit, he seems too smart for that.
TLC 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Day – Is it love or just a scam?
I want to root for this couple, I really do but I am going to have to see them interact more before I make my final decision on whether I think they will last or not. Do I think that Rosemarie genuinely loves Ed? Maybe. Do I think that she has the best of intentions for him? I want to believe that but some of her actions cause me to question her true motivation at times. This whole wallet grabbing thing didn’t reflect that great on her. But I guess to see what happens we’ll just have to stay tuned!!!
