Coronavirus Outbreak finds that while many businesses across the globe are urging their employees to self-quarantine by working from home, there’s no doubt that it will give many daytime television fans an opportunity to tune in to their favorite mid-day soap. However, a lot of viewers also can’t help but wonder what this means for the four soaps and if the three major networks – CBS, ABC and NBC – will continue their filming schedule, despite the virus outbreak. Here’s what you need to know.
As of press time, many cities such as New York City have declared a state of emergency. Popular daytime television talk shows such as The View and the Ellen DeGeneres Show have announced that they will film without a studio audience. Meanwhile, popular Netflix series Riverdale has announced that they will postpone taping new episodes until further notice. In Hollywood, many big budget movies like the new James Bond film have decided to postpone their premieres until later on this year.
Coronavirus Outbreak: Will The Daytime Television Soaps Feel An Impact Of The Virus?
So far the novel coronavirus has infected over 118,332 people worldwide, spreading to about 107 countries and resulting in 4,290 deaths. In the United States, 40 states plus the District of Columbia have reported confirmed cases of COVID-19, tallying 1,110 illnesses and at least 30 deaths. Many schools and business are temporarily closing down in the hopes that it will stop the spread of the deadly virus.
So far the producers of ‘Young and the Restless’, ‘Bold and the Beautiful’, ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Days of Our Lives’ have made no comments about their production schedule or if they plan on making any adjustments to their schedules. Seeing how many of the soaps tape a few weeks in advance (with Days of Our Lives taping six months in advance), there’s a good chance that soap fans can expect a bump in their regularly scheduled programming.
