BBC America Killing Eve Spoilers: About the show

The series is one of several projects that have made it from the page to the screen. It’s a new trend that we’re loving, as it breaks up the barrage of remakes and revivals that clutter the airwaves and theaters. The show follows two women on a collision course. One is Oksana Astankova, aka: Villanelle (Jodie Comer), a Russian assassin who has a talent for accents and disguise. She’s also completely psychotic and a bit of a loose cannon when it comes to doing her job. She tends to like making grand gestures to get attention.

The other lead is Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh). She was recruited to help MI6 look for Villanelle and the group she works for. She’s a bit of a mess herself, and this leads to some interesting situations. She’s so wrapped up in work that she’s missing what else is around her. And that’s got her on a slippery slope.

BBC America Killing Eve Spoilers: The bad

We’ll get the warnings out of the way first. We’ve wished on more than one occasion that the title would play out literally. We find Eve to be a boring, and her scenes have been skip-worthy often. Sanndra Oh has moments where she’s engaging, but her most interesting aspect is how she’s obsessed with her target. So much so, it’s obvious they have a mutual attraction. We just wish she had great scenes on her own or with others, and didn’t save herself for the scenes with Villanelle. They’re seriously the only time we watch her.

BBC America Killing Eve Spoilers: The good

We do love the concept of the show, and the symbolism of the title. In this show, Eve has more of a spiritual/emotional death. The further she sinks into her obsession with Villanelle, the more she finds herself losing things. She got fired from her previous job, lost her husband, and has compromised herself more than once. In one episode, she stabbed Villanelle after they shared an intimate moment. But there’s one thing that really makes this show.

BBC America Killing Eve Spoilers: The true star

We content the real star of this show is Jodie Comer. She is a force as an actress, drawing you in so you actually like the character. She can deadpan better than pretty much any actress we’ve seen, and does the child-like glee just as well. But where she really shines is balancing her character’s moments of pure psychosis with genuine vulnerability. Stay tuned, because we’re sure BBC America will marathon the first two seasons before the premiere. It’s what they did last time. You’re not going to want to miss it.
