CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) star Jason Thompson admits that he had to experience plenty of ups and downs before managing to get to the point where he is today. In fact, the actor, who is best known for his role as Billy Abbott on the hit soap, has recently opened up about his pre-soap fame and some of the struggles he went through. Here’s what you need to know.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, the actor says that before he made the move to Los Angeles, he worked a series of menial jobs back in his native Canada. He told the publication in an interview, “I was making asphalt and paint in a warehouse for hockey rinks, which wasn’t so fun. When I got to Los Angeles, I did everything I could to keep my head above water. I was on a visa that didn’t allow me to work in establishments, so I mostly assisted a buddy of mine who was a photographer. Living was really tight and then I would get lucky and land a commercial here and there or an acting job that would go on for a couple of months.”

Jason also said that he has one prized possession that has not only brought him good luck but remained by his side throughout his years: his truck. The actor added, “I also had a pickup truck at the time so I would move furniture, load and unload things, or let people use my truck for money on the side. It’s a 1970 C10 Chevy and it still runs great. It’s the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever had. My kids love it. It feels like a tank when you are driving it, so you just have to slow down in it. There’ no radio or phone, just a bench seat, so you roll down the window and chill.”
