(This article includes spoilers from the day-ahead Y&R episode that airs in Canada on May 18 and in the USA on May 19.)
On the Tuesday, May 19 episode of The Young and the Restless — which airs a day early in Canada — Devon finally came face-to-face with Mariah after everything she did to Dominic, and the emotional fallout was even uglier than expected. For months, everyone around Devon has been urging him to forgive her, understand her mental state, and focus on healing. But when he actually sat across from Mariah at the treatment facility, it became painfully clear that he’s nowhere near ready to let this go.
Devon Finally Says What He’s Been Holding In

The most powerful part of these scenes was that Devon stopped pretending he was okay. Instead of giving Mariah the polite, restrained version of his feelings, he admitted the truth — he still wants her to suffer for what she put him and Abby through.
Ever since Mariah kidnapped Dominic, Devon has been carrying around this unresolved anger while everyone else slowly started moving forward. Abby has softened. Tessa wants healing. Sharon wants compassion. Even Mariah herself has accepted she needs treatment. But Devon has been stuck in the same place emotionally because, for him, the trauma never really went away.
He admitted he still can’t shake the feeling of betrayal. This wasn’t some random criminal taking his son. This was someone he trusted. Someone who was part of their family.
And when Devon asked Mariah, “What the hell?” it felt like the first truly honest moment he’s had about the entire ordeal.
Mariah’s Explanation Didn’t Erase the Damage

To Mariah’s credit, she didn’t try to excuse what she did. In fact, she admitted something important during the conversation: part of her knew taking Dominic was wrong the entire time.
That confession clearly rattled Devon.
Mariah explained that she had lost touch with reality and spiraled into darkness while hallucinating Ian Ward again. She described Dominic as a “beacon” she clung to emotionally, convincing herself that taking him was somehow necessary. But even while explaining her mental state, she acknowledged that another part of her knew exactly how wrong it was.
Mariah wasn’t written as a cartoon villain twirling her mustache while kidnapping a baby. But at the same time, the show also isn’t pretending Devon should magically forgive her because she was struggling mentally. The writing finally allowed Devon to express how devastating this was for him instead of rushing him toward acceptance.
Devon’s Guilt Is Eating Him Alive
The biggest emotional reveal in these scenes wasn’t even Devon’s anger toward Mariah. It was the guilt he’s carrying toward himself.
At one point, Devon admitted he feels like he failed Dominic as a father because he couldn’t protect him. Underneath all the rage, Devon is blaming himself for what happened.
And honestly, that explains why he’s had such a hard time moving on compared to everyone else.
Devon isn’t just angry at Mariah. He’s replaying the nightmare over and over in his own head wondering what he missed, what signs he ignored, and how someone so close to the family managed to walk away with his son.
Mariah immediately pushed back on that guilt and insisted none of this was his fault. But you could tell Devon hasn’t accepted that yet.
Forgiveness Still Feels Very Far Away

By the end of the conversation, Devon admitted he would “do his best” to forgive Mariah someday. But this wasn’t some big emotional breakthrough where everyone hugged it out and moved on. If anything, the scenes proved just how raw the pain still is.
Mariah may be getting treatment, but Devon is clearly still emotionally trapped in the aftermath of what happened.
And honestly? That makes sense.
Devon still loves his family. He still wants peace. But right now, he simply cannot forgive the person who took his child.
