Y&R spoilers for next week indicate that Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) is going to give Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) some advice and warn him not to trust Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford).
Matt and Patty Are Currently in the Same Boat
Currently, Matt has no idea who he is and is trying to learn more about the man everyone seems to say is a really bad guy.
He doesn’t remember his crimes, nor does he recall his mission to destroy the Newman family. The only thing he knows is that his name is Matt Clark.
So, Matt and Patty are in the same boat. Now that Matt has amnesia, he genuinely seems like a much better person. It looks like Y&R is setting him up for a good redemption arc.

Interestingly, Patty claims that she’s reformed after her stint in a mental health facility. No one in Genoa City believes that Patty has changed.
Matt won’t receive any compassion from anyone in town who knows his sordid history. Yet, Patty has been very kind and welcoming toward Matt.
Phyllis, on the other hand, has her own selfish agenda. She wants to use Matt as a bargaining chip with Victor Newman (Eric Braden) and get him to drop the charges against her for stealing Newman Enterprises.

However, Victor won’t drop the charges without Phyllis also giving him back his company. Phyllis is currently digging her heels in.
Y&R spoilers for next week also show that Matt will be ambushed and tied up. We surmise that the person holding him hostage is likely Phyllis.
However, Patty will come to his rescue. We have to wonder if Y&R is setting Matt and Patty up for a romance. The two of them seem to have some chemistry, and they are definitely two peas in a pod.
Matt Can Be Redeemed if He Sticks with Patty
The one saving grace Matt has is that he doesn’t remember who he is. He’s a man without a past. Patty seems to have reformed to some extent. So, they may be a couple worth rooting for.
That said, if Matt remembers who he is, nothing will save him. Matt tried to kill the Newmans in Las Vegas. Also, when he was in high school, he brutally raped Sharon Newman (Sharon Case). The Newmans aren’t going to simply forget that.

They also won’t forgive him. Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) has a dangerous plan to kill Matt in “self-defense.” Yet, we can’t help but feel empathy toward this man who has no idea who Nick and Sharon are.
Right now, Y&R has a golden opportunity to redeem Matt. Roger Howarth is a very talented actor who really shouldn’t have been cast in a role that came with so much negative baggage.
Howarth is far too valuable to be playing Matt Clark in the first place. Y&R should have written a new character for him, so there was much more potential for him to stay. In any case, Patty may be able to help him start over.

She might be good for Matt if she’s truly been rehabilitated. Patty has some serious mental health issues, but she seems to have turned over a new leaf.
If Matt sticks with Patty, the possibilities for the character are endless. After all, if anyone can actually redeem the infamous and evil Matt Clark, it’s Roger Howarth.
