Eric Braeden Praised For Supporting Nurses Strikes

Eric Braeden (Victor Newman), the star of the CBS show The Young and the Restless, has publicly expressed his opinion regarding the nurses’ strike in New York City.

‘The Young And The Restless’: Eric Braeden Praised For Supporting Nurse Strikes-‘Nurses Need To Be Paid More Money, PERIOD!’

He tweeted in support of the nurses, emphasising that they deserve to be paid higher wages. On Monday, 9th January 2023, over seven thousand nurses in New York City ceased work at two medical centres in Manhattan and the Bronx in order to advocate for better care and more reasonable contracts for patients and nurses.

The strike went on for four days, during which supporters took to the streets, holding signs and marching in protest. On Thursday, January 12th, the union and the hospitals agreed on a deal which involved a wage raise, thus ending the strike.

Braeden pointed out that nursing is a critical job that is important to everyone, and he provided a solution to the issue by proposing that instead of reducing services when a hospital is taken over by businesses that offer large salaries to their top executives, the wages of the nurses and orderlies should be increased.

In a post to his fans on Twitter, he said: “Nurses need to be paid more money, PERIOD! It’s an essential profession, essential to ALL of us…PAY THE NURSES & orderlies.”

It is widely known that medical facilities throughout the United States are facing a staffing shortage and, due to the pandemic, nurses are the ones providing essential support.

With that being said, the response on social media to Eric’s comments suggested that nurses ought to be accorded proper respect, as should the individuals they are caring for. One person wrote: “It’s the same in Canada. Not near enough appreciation for nurses. They are underpaid for the wonderful work they do.”

If Eric’s comments do end up resulting in a discussion that can bring about results, then that can only be a good thing. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
