Penny shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, expressing her grief and acknowledging the surprise for many who were unaware of Powers’s battle with cancer. “He hadn’t widely shared that he had been fighting cancer for several months,” she wrote. “He loved seeing all of your activities here on FB and I know he would want you to speed through your sadness and shock and continue to celebrate life as he always did.”
Penny and Powers’s love story began on the set of Santa Barbara, where Powers worked as a production assistant. Their connection blossomed, leading to a Christmas Eve proposal at the iconic Big Corona in Newport Beach, California. Their wedding in 1995 was a star-studded affair, attended by Penny’s All My Children co-stars Eva LaRue and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The couple welcomed their son, Chasen August Powers, in 2007, who, according to his obituary, was his father’s greatest joy.
Powers was a multi-talented individual with a passion for art, culinary arts, and life. His artistic talents were showcased in various television shows, including Gilmore Girls and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He was also a renowned chef, having studied at the prestigious Cordon Bleu in Paris.
