Braunwyn Windham-Burke appeared on the Real Housewives of Orange County for a few seasons and we saw her having quite a few struggles in her life that may have been the reason that she decided to leave the show. The other women on the show didn’t see eye to eye with her and in 2020, she decided that it was time to get sober.

Not only that, but she also came out as a lesbian on-camera! This really did shock a lot of people, including her husband. There were a lot of other rumors that came out about her past relationships as well and it was a lot for her to get through. Producers did not ask her to come back onto the show for another year and she has started to open up more about what happened.

Braunwyn made it a point to tell her fans that she wasn’t a big fan of how the network portrayed her coming out story. She said that it did her an “injustice” and that she had to deal with a lot of comments from the cast members that were homophobic.

She told fans, “Making off-color jokes about me being intimate with a woman, that’s not OK. Those are microaggressions. Taking someone that’s sober and putting them in a situation where people are saying they’re not and calling behind their back, that’s not okay. One-hundredth of what we film makes it onto the show. So you can choose what you want…But I will say, after I came out, having to prove that I was gay like I had to prove I was an alcoholic and then prove that I was gay like that should never have been tolerated. That is a microaggression. That is homophobia.”

There were plenty of conversations that were on the show about her sexuality and it seemed as if that was all season 15 was about. She didn’t feel that this was right, especially when the other women had some serious things going on in their lives.

It was as if the producers were singling her out because of her coming out story. She has pointed out that it is a “toxic television show” and it really did affect her mental health. She is still trying to repair the bonds that she made and her mental health.

You can continue to follow her story on her Instagram account and follow the other Housewives as well.
