Queen Elizabeth II’s decision to remove the military titles from Prince Andrew in light of his sexual assault case was based on ‘Megxit.’
Queen Elizabeth II Was Influenced By ‘Megxit’ When She Stripped Prince Andrew Of His Military Titles
In the aftermath of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from the Royal Family, it was clear that the monarchy had to engage in a policy of damage limitation.
This was signified by the couple’s controversial interview on Oprah Winfrey, which called into question the integrity of the Royal family.
There were accusations of racism, as well as the thoughts of Meghan considering suicide, which brought unnecessary and unwarranted attention on the Royal family.
Much in the same way, rather than waiting on the outcome of Andrew’s case, it looks as though the Queen took decisive action to minimise any damage that was coming her way.
A source said: “They have taken this decision to insulate the institution from being hit by all the shrapnel that is flying around. It follows the same model as the Sussex separation.
“The removal of titles and patronages means the institution can now legitimately say it is not involved.” This decision clearly demonstrates that there are no special privileges when it comes to family.
After all, there was initial speculation that the Queen would continue to stand by Andrew especially since his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson was adamant that her former husband was innocent.
But given that the Queen is not getting any younger, coupled with the fact that her health has been deteriorating of late, it seems that she relied on the support of those very close to her in making such a decision.
And that included none other than Prince William and Prince Charles. It is no surprise to hear that the former has taken on a leading role following Prince Philip’s death, while the latter is next in line to the throne.
The source added: “It was a ruthless and swift decision which will have been recommended by the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge and sanctioned by the Queen.”
There is no going back for Andrew, so the only thing he can hope for is that he is cleared of any wrongdoing. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
