Well, Meghan Markle could have had it if she stayed, ut she chose otherwise. There’s a new report that says Queen Elizabeth has now handed over one of Meghan Markle’s favorite patronages to Camilla Parker Bowles.
Meghan was patronage to the National Theater, which made sense seeing how the Duchess of Sussex used to be a Hollywood actress. But it now belongs to Camilla, who says it is a privilege to be in the new role. Here’s what you need to know.
Queen Elizabeth Gives Camilla Parker Bowles One Of Meghan Markle’s Favorite Patronages
Reports say that the Duchess of Cornwall has been made royal patron of the National Theater by the Queen – the first of the Duchess of Sussex’s former patronages to be taken over. As many fans know by now, Meghan was stripped of the prestigious role as part of the post-Megxit review.
The National Theater said it was delighted Camilla, a long-standing supporter for the arts, had been given the role, describing her as a devoted fan of theater and champion of literature and drama.
This all comes after Camilla also said that she feels “honored” to be a future Queen Consort. Queen Elizabeth called it her “sincere wish” for Camilla to be known as Queen Consort and urged the country to give Charles and Camilla the same support she has enjoyed.
The Queen, who is at Sandringham, wrote: “When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
Back in 2021, there was some speculation that there were members of the royal family that didn’t want Camilla to become Queen. According to Britain’s Express.co.uk, there is someone behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace who doesn’t think Camilla is fit to be Queen.
Royal author and expert Penny Junor suggested that there is some reservation behind making Camilla Queen even though her husband Prince Charles stands to be the next King of England. Instead of being called a Queen, some people think that Camilla should be a Princess Consort instead.
