The Crown Season 4 star Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Princess Margaret, agrees with critics that Netflix should add a disclaimer to the show and stress that the series is indeed ‘fiction’ and not totally based on true events that happened in real life.

In fact, the brunette beauty believes that the online streaming giant has a moral responsibility to warn viewers that they are not in fact watching a documentary.

Helena made her comments on the series’ official podcast. She said that there was an important distinction between the show’s version of what happened and real life.

“It is dramatized. I do feel very strongly, because I think we have a moral responsibility to say, ‘Hang on, guys, this is not … it’s not a drama-doc, we’re making a drama.’ So they are two different entities,” she said.

Britain’s Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden agrees. He recently went on the record to say that The Crown should come with a disclaimer amid all of the criticism that the Netflix series has so far gotten about the historical liberties that have been taken about the royal drama. Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Dowden says that it’s up to Netflix to provide accurate information and if not, at least provide a disclaimer for fans.

“It’s a beautifully produced work of fiction,” he explained to the outlet. “So as with other TV productions, Netflix should be very clear at thebeginning it is just that. Without this, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.”

If that weren’t enough, former royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter, who was with Charles and Diana on their Australia tour in 1983, also says that many parts of The Crown is pure fiction. He says that Prince Charles and Princess Diana couldn’t keep their hands off of each other when they were newlyweds and that Charles was still affectionate with his wife two years into their marriage. He also suggested that The Crown should come with a warning and that the series’ portrayal of the Queen as a “cold” mother was also off the mark.
