One of the founders of Twitter, and CEO Jack Dorsey has stepped down as the CEO of Twitter. The news broke this morning and has been making its way around the world very quickly. Dorsey has been accused and grilled for blocking news, silencing voices, and blatantly lying by the likes of Senator Ted Cruz and independent journalist Tim Pool.

Pool famously tore into Dorsey during a podcast on The Joe Rogan Experience, where Dorsey seemed to be speechless and unable to answer Pool’s questions. While he hasn’t had the greatest persona, there’s no doubt that Twitter was an incredible creation.

Dorsey made a statement about his resignation,

“There’s a lot of talk about the importance of a company being ‘founder-led.’ Ultimately, I believe that’s severely limiting and a single point of failure.“

He went on to list three reasons he believes it’s his time to step down. Firstly that he believes Parag, who began at the company as an engineer and has worked his way up, is just the man for the job. He is also confident in Bret Taylor becoming Twitter’s board chair and spoke to the users of the platform themselves, “All of you have the potential to change the course of this company for the better. I believe this with all my heart!”

Twitter was founded in 2006 by Dorsey, Biz Stone, Noah Glass, and Ev Williams. He served as CEO until 2008, then again in 2015. He also founded Square, the digital payment company, and will retain his role within that company.

Dorsey made the announcement on his Twitter page (surprise), and explained why he was resigning. He ended the statement with,

“PS I’m tweeting this email. My one wish is for Twitter Inc to be the most transparent company in the world. Hi mom!”
