Couldn’t they just have Tom Selleck host the show? There’s a new report that says fans are none too pleased over the fact that late night host James Corden is hosting the Friends HBO Max Reunion special.

In fact, a lot of people think it’s quite odd that James Corden and the guest list are on the show, seeing how they don’t have much of a tie to the series. Here’s what you need to know.

Instead of bringing on popular Friends guest stars like Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, Giovanni Ribisi, or even Brad Pitt, other celebrities like David Beckham, Lady Gaga, BTS, Cara Delevingne, Mindy Kaling,

James Corden, Malala Yousafzai and Justin Bieber will appear. This doesn’t make much sense to fans seeing how half this list was born after Friends debuted in 1994. The show ended in 2004.

But it’s whose hosting that really has everyone up in arms. “All these people could’ve been a part of the friends reunion but Warner Bros chose Justin Bieber and James Corden,” on Twitter use wrote while another one added, “James Corden adding the ‘Friends’ reunion to the list of things he’s ruined with his mere presence.”

Another disgruntled fan wrote, “Don’t get me wrong I’ve been wanting a ‘Friends’ reunion since 2004 but if someone told me James Corden would be in it I’d have told them not to bother. James Corden in the ‘Friends’ reunion makes sense to me … It’s straight people’s turn to get their culture ruined.”

Other critics pointed out that having James Corden on the show seems quite odd seeing how his late night talk show is on CBS and Friends ran on NBC for ten years.
