‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers were excited when the news broke last March that Steve Burton was returning to Salem as Harris Michaels.
It was a great move by the show as it brought a daytime favorite into the fold and returned an old favorite character into the mix, but since things have been lukewarm.
For months, it felt like Harris was in a holding pattern waiting for something to happen as he dealt with being deprogrammed, reprogrammed, and then deprogrammed yet again.
He had some great moments, but there wasn’t that feeling of AHA! or awe we’d normally expect for a returning character and actor like him.
There could be several reasons from the writers taking time to figure out how to write Harris Michaels to Steve being most comfortable as a clone of his Jason Morgan character from ‘General Hospital’.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers – Old habits die hard
What’s really cool about a character like Harris is it’s been years, decades since we last saw him so he’s definitely gone through some changes during that time.
That makes him being harder and more controlled a reasonable expectation, and since Jason Morgan was like that it would’ve been easy for him to slide into the role.
He did have some good one liners and moments early on, but then seemed to lose steam.
It’s not unheard of, especially when the actors and writers are trying to figure each other out. Sometimes, family is the easiest and best way to go so the slow burn makes sense.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers – Finding his groove
Harris really seemed to get going when he met up with Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) and helped her clear her name after saving her.
Since then he’s been fun, goofy at times, and a lot less rigid than early on, which makes it feel like Steve and the writers are comfortable and found their groove.
Harris has already shown he’s the best detective in Salem by noticing things everyone else misses, though “misplacing” his keys could be a strike against him, especially since he left them sitting on his desk.
Granted, he had no reason to think someone would take them, but this is Salem.
Now that he’s found his groove, ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers expect some fun things for him before he’s possibly killed off, and if he does leave the show, we hope it’ll be more memorable than his return was initially.
