British actress Joanna Lumley has downplayed the tensions within the Royal family by suggesting that they are still a close unit.
British Actress Joanna Lumley Downplays The Tensions Within The Royal Family-They Are ‘Much Closer Than We Think’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from the Royal family in 2020, raised suggestions that things would never be the same especially following their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview.
This is particularly true when there were allegations of racism from the couple, who suggested that concerns were being expressed at Archie’s skin colour. But for Joanna, she had a different take on it.
During an interview on the ‘Jonathan Ross Show’ she said: “I don’t think we really know what goes on behind anybody’s closed doors. I think, I have a suspicion, that that family’s much closer than we think.”
As such, the disgruntlement towards the Royal family is something that Joanna feels is being fuelled by the media. One avenue that she feels has not helped is the hit TV show ‘The Crown.’
The former has been accused of disrespecting members of the Royal family including none other than the late Princess Diana.
So much so that one of Diana’s former friends Jemima Khan left her role as a consultant on the show because she had reservations over how Diana was being portrayed. That is why there is a perception of negativity towards the Royals.
She added: “I think we all believe television shows that are made about them, like The Crown. I don’t watch it because I know it’s made up.
“These are real people and suddenly they’re made up to be different people and I don’t think it’s right.” Unlike many other people, Joanna has happened to have met the Royal family.
And based on her personal experience, she could not fathom why there is such animosity towards them. Although they have been accused of privilege, the fact that they give back to the community is something that should be acknowledged.
Joanna continued: “[They are] so kind and so friendly and so polite and not grand. You’ll find kindly, good-hearted people.”
Until Harry and Meghan make an appearance together in the UK, these claims are not going to die down. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
