Bill Maher has weighed in on the Oscar confrontation between Will Smith and Chris Rock and he thinks that Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss isn’t a big deal. In fact, if it’s the worst thing she’s struggling with she is a very lucky woman. The “Real Time” host said Friday night,

“If you are so lucky in life as to have that be your medical problem, just say, ‘thank God.'”

Maher continued on to drop some stats saying that 80% of men and 50% of women lose their hair as part of the aging process. This is a switch from his initial thoughts, as when he learned Jada had Alopecia he thought maybe Rock did cross the line, however, after some research, maybe it’s not that big of a deal.

He finished the comments by telling Jada to just put on a wig and that it is no big deal,

“And you know, just put on a f***ing wig like everybody else at the Oscars if it bothers you so much.”

As we all know, Chris joked about Jada’s head, saying he couldn’t wait for G.I. Jane 2. A dated, throwaway joke that launched Will Smith into a fiery temper that caused him to walk up on stage and open-hand slap Chris Rock. What should have been just another joke about a celebrity ended up being one of the most talked-about things of the year…

As far as Jada’s medical issues, we can’t say for certain, but I would lean toward agreeing with Bill. My own mother has a dozen issues and doesn’t get upset or hostile about them, including hair loss from her Lupus and other issues. There are a ton of women out there suffering from cancer and all medical issues that are far worse than alopecia. I think we can all agree it sucks but the reaction to the joke was unwarranted.
