A TikTok video has gone viral after one user accused pop star Ariana Grande of perpetuating Asian-fishing.

TikTok Video Accuses Ariana Grande Of Cultural Appropriation By Dressing Like A K-Pop Star

Asian-fishing is a concept where people try to change their appearance in a way, so that they look more Asian in the hope of getting extra clout.

While that is a serious accusation to make, TikToker @kuzumi.n believed he had evidence to prove such a fact. In the video here, we can see a series of pictures showing Ariana dressed up for what looks to be a photo shoot.

The user speaks on how Ariana’s poses, as well as her make-up, suggest that she is trying to imitate beauty in the form of a K-pop star. And as a way to prove just that, the TikToker ends up comparing Ariana’s picture with another Korean person.

In the video, he is heard saying the following: “They look a little too similar especially considering that Ariana Grande is a white woman.”

The video instantly went viral with over 90,000 views and counting. A certain subset of people believed that these actions by Ariana only ended up perpetuating existing stereotypes that people had towards Asian people.

In addition to this, many people concurred with @kuzumi.n by commenting on how Arian’s pictures made it look as though she was from a Korean background. So much so that they actually ended up being convinced by the pictures.

One person wrote: “BRUH, I didn’t even realize the first two were Ariana Grande. I legit thought it was a random Kpop Singer.”

While another stated: “For celebrities, every pic is choice is done to achieve a specific look or aesthetic. Editing out her eyelids and making her skin lighter was INTENTIONAL.”

Although Ariana does have an Italian background, this latest claim of cultural appropriation that is being directed towards her is only going to end up alienating her fans.

The star has yet to respond to these accusations, but it is probably wise that she is more careful about what she decides to do going forward with her career. After all, she does have a big Korean fanbase.
