King Charles And Queen Camilla Celebrate Their 19th Wedding Anniversary-Inside Their Unconventional Wedding Day

King Charles and the Queen consort, Camilla, celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary. The royal couple was married on April 9th, 2005.

Charles and Camilla Have Been In Love For Over Half A Century

King Charles and Queen Camilla connected at a polo match in 1970 at Windsor Great Park. To their delight, they discovered they had a lot in common. They both enjoy polo and the outdoors, are deeply committed to matters of the environment, and share the same sense of humor.

The two of them dated but broke up when Charles went off to sea. Rumor has it that there was more to it than that.

As the story goes, Queen Elizabeth preferred Charles to wed a woman who at least “appeared to be virginal.” Allegedly, the Queen disapproved of Camilla.

Camilla married Andrew Parker Bowels in 1973. In 1981, the historic wedding of Charles and Princess Diana took place.

During Charles and Camilla‘s marriages to other people, the couple encountered much public scrutiny and judgment. An intimate phone exchange between Charles and Camilla was leaked, and it caused quite the royal scandal.

Eventually, Charles and Diana divorced because Charles still loved Camilla. Charles and Camilla got back together and made their relationship public a year after Princess Diana was killed in a catastrophic auto crash in Paris. The pair got engaged in February 2005.

Charles and Camilla had their wedding at Windsor Guildhall on April 9th, 2005. Charles was the first royal to marry in a civil ceremony.

When most people think of royal weddings, they immediately think of “pomp and circumstance,” like Prince William and Kate Middleton’s lavish storybook wedding. That would not be the wedding of Charles and Camilla.

In the End, Charles and Camilla Won the Queen’s Blessing

Camilla did not wear the traditional tiara during the ceremony since the couple were not married in a church. Instead, Camilla wore a wide-brimmed hat.

Her dress was a cream silk chiffon number. Her second ensemble for the blessing at the chapel was a light blue gown with a gold coat.

In a demonstration of her disdain over the nuptials, Queen Elizabeth didn’t show up at the ceremony but made it for the blessings and pictures.

The Queen believed it wasn’t appropriate for her to endorse a union between two people who were previously divorced. Prince Philip also did not attend the service.

Hugo Burnand took the photos of the royal wedding. Charles’s sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, were present. Camilla’s kids, Laura and Tom Parker Bowles, were also there.

Charles and Camilla have been through many ups and downs. They have celebrated their children’s marriages, the birth of their beloved grandchildren, and the death of Charles’s parents, Prince Philip, and Queen Elizabeth.

The coronation for Charles to take the throne was in May 2023. Charles was crowned King and Camilla, the Queen consort.

In February 2024, King Charles announced he had an undisclosed form of cancer and was undergoing treatment. Camilla has stood by him throughout all of it. She has been his anchor.

The Queen eventually gave the couple her blessing in a lovely speech on Grand National Day. Charles and Camilla were finally embraced as a couple and couldn’t have been happier.
