The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in the U.K has prohibited the cover art for Demi Lovato’s eighth album “Holy Fvck” because it is considered ‘offensive to Christians.’

The posters of the album displayed an image of Lovato wearing a bondage-style ensemble while reclining on a large, padded cross. And given that this had been done across London, it did create some uproar. The posters were contentious since people argued that minors could view them.
It was judged to be offensive due to the way Lovato was dressed, as well as her posturing on top of a mattress that was in the form of a crucifix. The ASA concluded that it was evocative of Jesus on the cross due to her legs being bound in a single direction.
Furthermore, the mention of ‘holy fvck’ was seen as bringing together sexual behavior and the Crucifixion; as a result, it was deemed to be profoundly upsetting. Levato’s label, Polydor Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, claimed that they did not believe the advertisement for Lovato’s album would be considered offensive.
They discussed this with the agency and were given the go-ahead to display the posters on the suggested websites. The response on social media, though, was very damning. A significant proportion of people slammed Levato on the basis that she had offended a large proportion of people’s beliefs.
This was irrespective of whether someone accepted Christianity. Meanwhile, others were of the view that she came across in a very distasteful manner. One person wrote: “I pray she humbles herself before God to be saved, but what she may or may not produce on an album cover is of no concern to me at all.”
