When becoming a monk, there is a lot of religious training, but David feels like he is a great candidate for it. He told them cameras, “I’ve always felt that I’ve had a connection to Asia. And if you remember from last season, when we went to the fortune teller and she said that I was the great-grandson of the Naga Ping, which is a mystical creature of the Mekong River. I’ve always felt it. I think that most people don’t realize what Buddhist minks- what they really sacrifice.”

David decides to let his American family know what he is doing and what becoming a monk really means. As David is talking about the process, he does note that he will not be a monk forever, he just wanted to pay tribute to the Thai culture for his wife, Annie. This is not the only big change in David’s life since the last time we saw him. He knows that it will grow back, but this is another big part of the process. His daughter told the cameras, “My dad can be a little vain, so the fact that he’s ready to shave his head and eyebrows is a little shocking.”
Annie was a little surprised that he wanted to become a monk and she said that one day he just woke up and told her that wanted he wanted to do. Then she explains to him what it is like to be a monk, “No sex. No drink. Eat only two times a day. Not allowed to wear shoes. No perfume. No underwear. Sleep at the temple. And, you know, be a monk, you can’t jack off.”
Annie tells him that no matter what he does, she will support him, but she feels like he needs to think about this decision a little more. David and Annie: After the 90 Days premieres on Monday at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
