Daisy Ridley Returns To Instagram After 6 Year ‘Social Media Hibernation’ While Preparing For Her ‘Year of Yes’

It has been almost 6 years since Star Wars star Daisy Ridley removed herself from social media, which was less than one year after she’d become a household name for playing Jedi, Rey in arguably the world’s most famous movie franchise.

Now the actress has made a ‘triumphant’ and surprising return to Instagram, posting a photo of herself in full chill mode with the caption reading: “Coming out of social media hibernation refreshed, recharged, and ready for what I’m calling my “Year of Yes”. (And that’s the tea.)”

Even out of the IG game for over half a decade, Ridley has over 91K followers. Her post, added on Monday, amassed over 50K likes in only one day.

While her Star Wars costar, Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca) commented “I need some of those goggles to pilot the Falcon. 😂😎” and the official Star Wars account wrote “Those would make piloting a speeder most difficult” (both posts referring to the light goggles the actress is sporting in her picture), it was a comment from Black Bear Pictures Production Company saying “Welcome back, Helena” that had fans buzzing.

Since starring in episodes 7,8 and 9 of Star Wars, Ridley has laid a little low, doing video game voice overs, a doco and some shorts. Now Ridley’s IMDb shows she has no less than 5 projects which will be coming out soon, including the aforementioned “Helena” thriller, The Marsh King’s Daughter.

It seems the Year of Yes will have Ridley VERY busy- but not too busy to post to IG.

The English actress deleted her social media accounts in August 2016 after facing backlash for an anti-gun violence post. She credits being able to separate her personal life from her professional life by not being on social media.

“The statistics that link [social media sites] to anxiety are terrifying,” the 29 year old said in an interview with a Spanish magazine. “I have friends completely addicted to their phone who have suffered with this problem.”

Ridley wasn’t the only Star Wars actress to remove herself from social media. Kelly Marie Tran, who became the first Asian actress to take on a lead role in the movie empire when playing Rose Tico, a rebel mechanic who joins forces with Finn (John Boyega), was the target of racist and sexist attacks over the internet and on social media, including insults about her ethnicity and size.

In regards to Ridley, last year she was quoted as saying ‘I don’t want to go back [to social media], but sometimes I think about it. But the truth is that no, I won’t be returning.”

Looks like never say never has become part of the year of yes.

Welcome back, Daisy.
