‘Welcome to Plathville’: Birth Control And A Miscarriage – Olivia Plath & Moriah Plath Have Conversations About Sex

‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers reveal that Olivia Plath posed the question to Moriah Plath, had she found good birth control. She did tell her beforehand that she didn’t have to answer it but instead of hiding it, Moriah just said she had, however, she didn’t go into specifics on-camera and we respect that, Moriah’s body is her own to do what she needs to do with, it’s her life.

Although, the circles she grew up in would have you believing otherwise, and briefly Olivia mentioned just how strict and severe the teachings that they both grew up with were.

Olivia asked if Kim had ever talked to Moriah about sex, and Moriah said that Kim had talked to her about sex only once, and it was after she had ‘figured it all out for herself’, whatever that means. We’ll assume that there was an issue of Cosmo or whatever lying around that Kim forgot to get rid of from her college days – hey it happens!

Moriah also said “life teaches you’ but didn’t really go into specifics about what she meant, which begs the question – what does life teach you exactly? But, she’s a single teenage girl living in Cairo, Georgia who is college-aged, and college-aged kids are going to be curious and find out things.

Olivia said that her own Mom never mentioned anything about sex, nor did she have any girls to talk about it with growing up (often if you’re homeschooled, you don’t have that kind of support system, that’s just a common thing) but she did say that her Dad mentioned things to her, but it was mostly in the context of “don’t do xy and z or else you’re a prostitute.”, a statement that seemed to resonate with Moriah, and that also if you sleep with someone before marriage you are forever tainted and no one will want you.

That statement didn’t seem to resonate as much but considering Kim was dating quite a few people at the time that she started dating Barry, then maybe that narrative wasn’t preached quite so much in her household. Ahem.

Olivia went onto say that she herself had been on birth control for a while, but had gone off it because she was too hormonal and felt bad, a common complaint among women who take birth control. However when she stopped she said she instantly got pregnant and then promptly had a miscarriage, something that a lot of women just don’t talk about, and something that she didn’t really feel she had anyone in her life that she could share it with – besides Moriah.

She said that she told Moriah because she doesn’t want Moriah to feel that way and that ultimately she wants Moriah to ‘be herself’.

Of her relationship with Ethan, she said that in the beginning, their relationship was her doing a bunch of the leading, but that after a while she was just not okay with that and would rather want a relationship as equals as opposed to a relationship where she’s the one initiating all the things. She just hopes that Ethan can eventually come to terms with that. Stay tuned!!!
