Prince Harry Says His Late Grandfather Prince Philip Was “A Listener”

It’s without a doubt that he is surely missed. Prince Harry opened up about his late grandfather Prince Philip in a new documentary for the BBC and says that he’s not only dearly missed by the royal family, but that he was also “very much a listener.” Here’s what he has to say.

Prince Harry said that Prince Philip was one of the few people that he could talk to about everything, including his time in Afghanistan. During the BBC tribute, Harry said that his grandfather would “never probe” but listen.

During Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, Harry put it this way: “Going off to Afghanistan he was very matter of fact and just said, ‘Make sure you come back alive’… then when I came back, there wasn’t a deep level of discussion, more a case of, ‘Well you made it. How was it?’ That’s how he was.”

He continues: “He was very much a listener, he sort of set the scene for you to be able to share as much as you wanted to share but he would never probe.”

As many royal fans already know, Prince Harry previously serve in two deployments in Afghanistan with the British army. He also founded the Invictus Games in 2014 in an effort to use athletics and competition to inspire service members to recover both physically and mentally from injuries suffered in combat.

Prince Philip died back in April at the age of 99, and just one month shy of his 100th birthday. “Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers” will air on BBC One on Wednesday, September 22nd.
