Jennifer Garner Visits Afghan Refugee Center

If this wasn’t another reason to love her, right? Hollywood actress Jennifer Garner visited an Afghan refugee center outside of Washington, D.C. earlier this week to meet with children and families who recently evacuated from Afghanistan.

The Taliban moved into several cities in the country in recent weeks, culminating in the takeover of the capital city of Kabul over the weekend. The U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 ousted the insurgents from power, but they never left. Here’s what you need to know.

In a video shared on Instagram, Ben Affleck’s ex-wife is playing with children and even singing nursery songs with children. The actress, a board member for the organization, can be seen touring the refugee center, talking to volunteers and taking notes in the video.

“Afghan children have known nothing but conflict their entire lives,” the mother-of-three said in a press release following her visit. “I got to see their beautiful art, sing songs and receive some really big hugs.”

“A world of healing happens for kids in these child-focused play areas,” the actress added. “This may be the first time these children have felt safe in months, and the activity space gives them the chance to have fun and just be kids — after all they’ve been through, they desperately need that.”

Just last month, between 50,000-65,000 Afghan partners and their families were trying to get out of the country. President Joe Biden has defended his administration’s execution of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, saying that he doesn’t think the crisis represents a failure and that there was no way better to handle the situation.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Pay Homage To The Victims Of The 9/11 Attacks

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are remembering the victims of the 9/11 attacks. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have changed the homepage of their site, Archewell, to pay tribute to those who perished in the terror attacks 20 years ago. Keep reading for everything you need to know.

The site has gone completely black and reads “In memoriam. September 11, 2001” before listing the names of the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the attacks. This comes after Queen Elizabeth also sent a message of support to the United States on the twentieth anniversary of the September 11th attack.

“As we mark the 20th anniversary of the terrible attacks on September 11, 2001, my thoughts and prayers – and those of my family and entire nation – remain with the victims, survivors and families affected, as well as the first responders and rescue workers called to duty, the monarch posted to the royal family’s official social media accounts.

“My visit to the site of the World Trade Centre in 2010 is held fast in my memory,” the message to U.S President Joe Biden continued. “It reminds me that as we honour those from many nations, faiths and backgrounds who lost their lives, we also pay tribute to the resilience and determinations of the communities who joined together to rebuild.”

The September 11 attacks, also commonly referred to as 9/11, were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the militant Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States of America on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001.
