Piers Morgan took to his Twitter account to weigh in on England’s heartbreaking loss against Italy in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley stadium on Sunday night.
Both teams drew 1-1 after extra time and Italy won the shootout 3-2, with England players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka – who are players of color – missing their penalty kicks. They have since been targeted with racial abuse online and on social media. Here’s what Piers has to say.
Piers, for once, didn’t have anything awful to say on Twitter. Right after the game ended, he wrote, “I admire every player who steps up & shows the balls to take a penalty in a game that important.

Piers also added that it’s time for social media giants like Twitter and Instagram to do something about the anonymous accounts that all of the vile racist abuse usually comes from.
Of course, it didn’t take very long for Piers’ social media fans to weigh in on his comments, with a lot of them pointing out that Piers did criticize tennis player Naomi Osaka for pulling out of Wimbledon this year and of course, all of the things he’s said about Meghan Markle over the years.
Some critics said, “Yet you criticize a young female tennis player who was unable to carry on when she felt the pressure at Wimbledon…and she was a proper novice at the level she was playing at….just saying,” along with, “Yet, a young, female, mixed race tennis player, of only 18 years of age, isn’t deserving of such praise, or admiration?
She just failed to handle the situation?! Someone’s getting themselves tied in knots here.” Another person said, “Bit hypocritical from you this when it was only a few days ago you were criticizing an 18-year-old from retiring from her game at Wimbledon on doctors’ orders. And all the things you’ve said about Meghan, too.”
