Prince Harry Says That He Has A ‘Shared Experience’ Over Public Grief With Robin Williams’ Son

Prince Harry has found a friend thanks to an unexpected circumstance. The Duke of Sussex says that he and Robin Williams’ son Zak Pym Williams have a “shared experience” over their difficulties of grieving a family member who was in the public eye.

Both Harry and Zak were speaking in The Me You Can’t See: A Path Forward, which was released on Apple TV in the early hours of Friday and followed the docuseries by Oprah Winfrey and Harry.

As many people already know, Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana was tragically killed in a car crash in Paris back in 1997 while Hollywood actor Robin Williams died by suicide in 2014.

During their discussion, Zak said, “From my end it was really hard to separate initially the process of privately grieving versus sharing the grieving with the general public.I really didn’t get a chance to really focus on the private grieving process until a year and a half after my dad passed away.”

Prince Harry added, “I think we have a lot of shared experience when you talk about that … when you see so many people around the world grieving for someone they feel as though they knew them better than you did in a weird way because you’re unable to grieve yourself. It’s like … how are you grieving more for someone who was my parent and I’m unable to grieve myself?”

And while Prince Harry does feel the need to express himself, his anger, his frustrations and his hurt during the mental health series, his family members back in the UK kind of what him to stop. According to insiders, Prince Charles is allegedly disappointed that the Duke of Sussex keeps dropping one bombshell after another about the way he was brought up behind closed palace doors.

In their docuseries, Prince Harry told Oprah that his father made him “suffer” as a child. Harry said, “My father used to say to me when I was younger … ‘Well, it was like that for me, so it’s going to be like that for you. That doesn’t make sense — just because you suffered that doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact quite the opposite. If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences that you had you can make it right for your kids.”
