Rather than blame Donald Trump for everything, couldn’t she just send a couple of hundred dollars to her grandmother to help her out? That’s what a lot of critics can’t help but wonder as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is once again blaming the Trump administration in failing to give Puerto Rico the aide its needed to help the storm-ravaged Caribbean island get back on its feet. Here’s what you need to know.
AOC, who just last month was spotted illegally parking her Tesla near a Whole Foods in an upscale neighborhood of Washington, D.C., highlighted her grandmother’s plight on Twitter after a visit back to Puerto Rico. She wrote, “Just over a week ago, my abuela fell ill. I went to Puerto Rico to see her- my 1st time in a year+ bc of COVID.”

Posting a photo of a dwelling with a damaged roof, little dresser and no bedding, AOC captioned it with, “This is her home. Hurricane María relief hasn’t arrived. Trump blocked relief $ for PR. People are being forced to flee ancestral homes, & developers are taking them.”
“And for the record – my abuela is doing okay. It’s not about us, but about what’s happening to Puerto Rican’s across the island,” she concluded. “She had a place to go to and be cared for – what about the thousands of people who don’t?”
Of course, it didn’t take very long for AOC’s critics to point out that she’s person with privilege who could definitely help out her grandmother if she wanted to. Daily Wire host Matt Walsh wrote, “Shameful that you live in luxury while allowing your own grandmother to suffer in these squalid conditions.”
“Honey, you drive a Tesla and have two apartments,” one other critic wrote, while another said, “If your grandmother is living poor that’s because you don’t help her out. I’m surprised that a socialist wouldn’t redistribute that wealth to their grandma. Sad!”
Others were upset that AOC keeps putting the blame on Donald Trump, even though President Joe Biden has been in office for about six months now.
“I just spent a week in Puerto Rico: everywhere from San Juan to eastern coast and western coast,” another user chimed in. “I never spoke to a single resident that thought anything was Trumps fault but instead LITERALLY EVERYONE said the Puerto Rican government sucks.”
