‘The Bachelor’: Matt James Speaks On Why He Gave Rachael Kirkconnell A Second Chance

The duo had infamously gone their separate ways after Rachael’s social media activity raised major concerns about whether she was perpetuating racism. Although Matt declared that she needed to go away and do some introspection, it seems he is willing to help her on that journey. During an interview with WSJ. Magazine, Matt said: “I need…a partner.

“If that woman isn’t Black — to understand what comes with me and my life and being Black…And I think it’s unfair to leave people without the ability to unlearn and be better.” And yet, these comments only go to show the volatile nature of the Bachelor franchise. This relationship has not just had consequences for the couple but also for the other stars of the show.

Chris Harrison walked away in the aftermath of his response to Rachael’s scandal. In addition, Rachel Lindsay suffered mass abuse on Instagram for her take on Chris’ comments. The total impact led Rachel to step down from her podcasting duties. It would have been wise for the franchise to work together, just as Matt seems to be doing.

This approach has also improved Matt’s relationship with his family. Matt was very vocal about how he had been distant from his father. But with time, he has managed to heal things. He added: “After the show, I reached out to my Pops, and we talk on a regular basis now. He’s taken steps to make amends with the rest of the family and be a better dad to his kids.”

Matt, though, had been criticised during the earlier parts of the show. During the first week, the franchise had reportedly received some of the lowest viewing figures in its history. There was a perception that Matt was too serious and ultimately forgot he was on a reality show.

Nevertheless, he was focused on keeping things real. He continued: “What was most important to me was that people [on the show] understood where I came from and who I was so that they could make an informed decision for themselves.”
