HBO Max’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ | Why Does Scorpion Only Know One Line Of English?

HBO Max’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ opened up to good user reviews and is already being touted for a sequel that will include Johnny Cage and Joe Taslim returning as Noob Saibot after his Sub-Zero was killed by Scorpion! The film overall was decent for a video game film and I had a lot of fun with it.

However, fans have pointed out one thing that doesn’t really make sense. Though, at the same time, it doesn’t really matter. Scorpion is Japanese and speaks Japanese throughout the entirety of the film, having subtitles throughout.

Though, towards the end of the movie when he comes back from the Netherrealm to save Cole and fight Sub-Zero he says his iconic line, ‘Get Over Here!’ in English.

HBO Max’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ | Why Does Scorpion Only Know One Line Of English?

This hasn’t bothered many fans to be honest, but it is kind of funny how we let something so blatant slide in the name of video games. Viewers commented about the line, “Speaks Japanese the whole film, only speaks English for Scorpion’s one liner”, “Scorpion spent the last 300 years in the nether realm and only learns 1 english phrase. Proceeds to speak to Cole in japanese for the rest of the movie.”, “its ironic that scorpion only knows how to say “GET OVER HERE” when he mainly speaks japanese in the movie” and ““Get over here” was the only thing he said in English. Lol”

So, why does Scorpion say this one line in English? Well, because it’s a video game film and that’s what he says in the game. Had he said the line in Japanese it wouldn’t have hit viewers the same way. It’s a notable silly gag, but one we’re not worried about by any means. Though, it is funny to point out.
