The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star made major waves when she announced her intention to make a run. Although it was unclear whether this was a tongue-in-cheek remark at the time, hindsight has shown us that she was very serious about it. And yet, the electorate has not been very sympathetic towards her.
According to a poll conducted by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies, the “vast majority of Democrats, Republicans and unaffiliated or independent voters said they would not be inclined to support her candidacy.” This is a significant blow for several reasons. Firstly, given she is running as an independent candidate, she will need all the support she can get from the voters of the other parties.
Not only that, if she cannot garner support in a state where she has a house, then she has no hope. But her family have been very vocal about her desire to make a real go of it. And by the sounds of her official statement, she is not here just to make up the numbers. In a post on Instagram at the time, she said: “I’m in! California is worth fighting for…but the responsibility is great, and I can’t wait to lead.”
So what can we expect from her candidacy? Well, despite being financially well-off in her own right, she has vowed to tackle the issues that have been plaguing middle America. However, just as we have heard this from various candidates in the past, Caitlyn is looking to appeal to people’s sincerity. It is not often that third party candidates have the opportunity to make their voices heard.
With that in mind, Caitlyn has set out her stall very clearly. During an interview on Fox News, she outlined her position. She said: “I have common sense. I see what is going on… I get it. People need help.” Can Caitlyn cause an upset? We will have to see how it all plays out.
