Welcome to Plathville find that Olivia Plath, who married into TLC’s strangest family, The Plaths, opened up to fans recently on her Instagram. On her IG stories, Olivia posted a question box, giving fans the green light to ask the successful photographer whatever they were burning to know.
Olivia responded to some lighthearted questions before the chat took a far more serious turn. When one fan wanted to know: “Advice on marrying into a family that’s different from yours and how you grew up?”, Olivia drew on her own experience that audiences have heard snippets about during Welcome to Plathville season 2.

The lengthy reply said in part that Olivia has adopted trial and error in her relationship with her in-laws, starting off by doing everything in her power to get along with Kim and Barry Plath, the over-bearing parents of husband, Ethan Plath.
Olivia recognized there will always be work required when joining a new family dynamic but soon realized there would always be conflict unless she gave over all control to Kim and Barry. Not wanting to be manipulated like that, Olivia explained that she had to walk away.
Viewers saw the aftermath of Olivia’s decision on the second season of the TLC reality show, with Ethan and Olivia being ostracized from the family, banned from communicating with his many, many younger siblings.
“Every situation is different,” Olivia added. “Get counsel, ask others who can look at the situation with fresh eyes. Try to be kind and gracious, but don’t let yourself be used or walked on. At the end of the day, blood doesn’t always win if it’s toxic.”
After answering that deep question, a different fan wanted to know how things were in Olivia’s bumpy marriage. “Everything ok with you and Ethan?” the fan asked. “Miss seeing your cute pics together!”
Olivia let her fans know the couple is a-okay by sharing a recent snap of the two, but did admit, “We are working through a lot right now, but hopefully it will all make us wiser and stronger in the end.”
The couple shared their marriage challenges on the show, but with the way Ethan stood up for his wife to his parents during the season finale, we think the two will do just fine!
