The song is about her 2018 near-fatal overdose. The singer opened up about the almost fatal experience in her YouTube docuseries, Demi Dovato: Dancing With The Devil. Here’s what you need to know.

Dancing With the Devil, Demi said that one the night of her near-fatal overdose back in 2018, she was given heroin laced with fentanyl and the dealer “ended up getting her really high and leaving her for dead.” If that weren’t enough, she was also sexually assaulted.

“Creating the music video for #DancingWithTheDevil was not the easiest shoot I’ve ever done… ,” she wrote of the video, which shows her in a hospital bed and other powerful scenes. “I create my art to heal, and to inspire others. I’m here today and I’m happy you are too.”

“I didn’t just overdose. I was taken advantage of,” Demi says in the docuseries. “When they found me, I was naked, blue. I was literally left for dead after he took advantage of me.”

Meanwhile, a source close to the singer says that Demi is rather happy with the response she has so far gotten for the docuseries from her fans. The tipster says she is “generally happy with the reaction to her docuseries so far.”

“Demi feels as though she was upfront, honest and open and told her truth,” said the source. “She likes that she was able to share her journey on her own terms and at her own comfortability level.”
