The stylist who got Janet Jackson ready before her Super Bowl Performance with Justin Timberlake says that it was the ‘Cry Me A River’ singer who wanted to make the most out of it by doing something a little more shocking compared to Britney Spears’ infamous kiss with Madonna Louise Ciccone at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.
Justin Timberlake Supposedly Set Up Janet Jackson’s Wardrobe Malfunction
Superstylist Wayne Scot Lukas told Page Six that Justin “insisted on doing something bigger than their performance. He wanted a reveal.” At first, Janet was supposed to wear a pearl G-string inspired by one that Kim Cattrall had worn in an episode of “Sex and the City.”
“Janet was going to be in a Rocha dress, and [Justin] was going to step on the back of her dress to reveal her butt in this pearl G-string,” he told us. But “the outfit changed a couple of days before, and you saw the magic.”
Justin ended up tearing off a part of Janet’s top, which ended up being the wardrobe malfunction heard and scene across the world.
“I wouldn’t call it a wardrobe ‘malfunction’ in a million years. It was the most functioning wardrobe in history. As a stylist, it did what it was intended to do,” Lukas said.
After Janet’s wardrobe malfunction, it was his actions or maybe even the lack thereof that contributed largely to Janet’s public scrutiny. The singer recently apologized for his non-action to both Janet and his ex, Britney.
“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism,” Justin said.
