Britney Spears has been rocked by the negative backlash she has received in the aftermath of her documentary Framing Britney Spears.

The documentary had been seen as a positive given the reaction that had followed amongst other celebrities. Both Justin Timberlake and Perez Hilton issued strong apologies in response to their maltreatment of Britney over the years. Despite those positives, Britney regretted doing the documentary in the first place.

In a post to her fans on Instagram, she said: “I didn’t watch the documentary, but from what I did see of it, I was embarrassed by the light they put me in … I cried for two weeks and well, I still cry sometimes.” The documentary has, by all accounts, strained her relationship with her family too. An insider told Us Weekly: “The likes of her dad and others in the conservatorship are far from happy about it.

“Obviously, because they feel it’s another example of them being painted as money-grabbing villains.” Her father, Jamie Spears, had stressed he was merely wanting to protect his daughter from anyone seeking to take advantage. That is what led to the conservatorship battle. Not only was Britney unhappy with the documentary, but she was also angry at the rumours that transpired out of it.

Britney has always maintained that she was in control of her life, despite speculation to the contrary. There had been rumours that Britney was not in charge of her social media, and as such, she was posting as a way to communicate hidden messages designed to show she needed help. This is what led to #freebritney to trend on social media.

Sources, though, have painted another picture as the singer has been left reeling from the assumptions. A source said: “There are no hidden messages. The documentary has torn her apart because there were so many assumptions based on conjecture.”

In fact, Britney could not be doing any better as the presence of her lover, Sam Asghari, has allowed her to take control of her brand. The source added: “Britney is extremely intelligent, strong, and business savvy. She is taking back her life.” There had been plans to do a sequel to the documentary, but with Britney feeling like this, it is unlikely to happen.
