‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ Spoilers: Kenya Moore Apologizes After Her Native American Headdress Caused Uproar

In a statement on Twitter, Kenya held her hands up over how her choice of attire could be deemed offensive. She said: “I want to sincerely apologise for inappropriately wearing the Native American headdress as a costume. I now realise that this was both disrespectful and insensitive and would never have done it if I had that knowledge and understanding beforehand.

“I regret it. When you know better, you do better. I am genuinely sorry.” Not only were the public offended by it, but her fellow housewives were also in condemnation. They could not, for a start, understand her choice of clothing, regardless of the political consequences that were associated with it. After all, it was for a birthday party where people were having a good time.

One housewife, Porsha Williams, said: “Kenya is a Native American warrior. I thought we weren’t doing that no more. Like, I knew that this girl was crazy, but add lame to the list, add whack to the list.” Although Kenya felt that she was living up to her heritage, it seemed that some fellow Native Americans were also offended by it. In a time where people can get cancelled for the slightest slip-ups, it probably was not a wise move for Kenya to be so bold with her clothing.

And that is why a spokesman on behalf of the TV network Bravo had this to say: “We had hoped it would provide a teachable moment, however in retrospect, it is clear that the network did not address this properly given the gravity of the situation. We apologise to both the Native American community and our audience as a whole.”

Despite the criticism coming her way, Kenya did have one person to back her. Kandi Burruss dismissed suggestions that Kenya was trying to offend anyone. She said: “I don’t think she was wearing the costume to mock anyone. I think she thought it was a beautiful costume because it’s the sign of a leader — a chief is someone to look up to, not to be made fun of.”
