It has been a tough yea for film and television with the pandemic upon us. There have been plenty of delays and halting with films, but the Oscars have finally been announced and we are happier than ever.
This makes us feel as if there is something pretty close to normal happening now. We have our fingers crossed for new films to come to us in the future. But for now, we give you the nominees.
Oscar Nominations For 2021: The Nominees Are….
The new nominees for best picture are “The Father”, “Judas and the Black Messiah”, “Mank”, “Minari”, “Nomadland,” “Promising Young Woman”, “Sound of Metal”, and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” “Mank”, which is a Netflix original movie, has gotten 10 nominations this year.
It was also nominated for best director, best actor, and best supporting actress. If you haven’t seen it, you should definitely add it to your list!
There are a few films that got quite a few nominations as well. Films that got six nominations are “The Father”, “Judas and the Black Messiah”, “Minari”, “Nomadland”, “Sound of Metal”, and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.” “Promising Young Woman” ended up getting five total nominations. It is interesting to see just how films have changed and just how many Amazon Prime and Netflix originals have been nominated.
We can remember a time when movies in these categories would have never been given a nod or second look, but we think that this a great sign for the future of films.
One of the great things about some of the best director nominations is that there are two women that were nominated. This is the first time that this has ever happened. Chloe Zhao, who directed “Nomadland” is nominated, along with Emerald Fennell who directed “Promising Young Woman.”
These women are up against Thomas Vinterberg, who nominated “Another Round”, Lee Isaac Chung, who directed “Minari”, and David Fincher, who directed “Mank.”
The 93rd year of the Academy Awards will air on April 25. This is about two months later than last year’s ceremony and things have changed quite a bit. We will see a lot of changes, due to COVID-19 and even though theatres have closed, there is still some light at the end of the tunnel for films.
As we can see, these nominations are practically all for streaming services and we are glad that films are still being made during this tough time.
