Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Will Begin Filming This Month With an All-Star Cast

It’s never easy for the Rebel Forces and the road to the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series was no exception.

Rumors of a stand alone Kenobi movie, in a similar vein to origin movie Solo have persisted since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012. Now the concept will becoming to life as a special series on Disney+, not too dissimilar from the streaming service’s smash hit The Mandalorian.

Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Will Begin Filming This Month With an All-Star Cast

The special series takes place between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, specifically ten years after Obi-Wan’s apprentice Anakin Skywalker turned to the Dark Side and went full Darth.

Not much else has been leaked in regards to the plot, only that it had to be retooled from it’s first draft of Obi Wan protecting infant Luke Skywalker after being separated from his twin-sister Leia. While this storyline would certainly be in canon for the franchise, it was deemed too similar to The Mandalorian plot.

We do know, however, that both Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, who played young Owen and Beru Lars in Episode Two: Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith are returning for the series, so both Luke and Obi Wan will find their way to Tatooine.

Even better news is that both Ewan MacGregor and Hayden Christensen will be reprising their roles as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sith Lord Darth Vader (respectively)

Adding their talents to the all star cast are newcomers to the franchise Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Simone Kessell (Of Kings and Prophets), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Homeland), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Den of Thieves), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Sung Kang (The Fast and the Furious), Simone Kessell (Of Kings and Prophets), and Benny Safdie (Pieces of a Woman).

The talent doesn’t end there. Deborah Chow, who directed two critically acclaimed episodes of The Mandalorian, will direct the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series with production due to start any day now.

No premier date has been announced yet, but I know I will be waiting with all the patience of a Tuskan Raider (well, it hasn’t been documented, but those sand people don’t scream patient to me)
