‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Fare Thee Well, Rhodes (Jason Downs), We Hardly Knew Ye!

‘Days of Our Lives (DOOL)’ spoilers have found that as unexpectedly as he appeared on our screens, the cowboy we knew as Rhodes (Jason Downs) is no more.

Rhodes first showed up in late January when it was revealed that presumed dead, Ciara Brady (Victoria Konefal) was alive (but not-so well). She was being held captive in a bedroom-in-a-box with Rhodes playing sentry.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Fare thee well, Rhodes, we hardly knew ye.

A flunky for Ciara’s previous abductor, Vincent Bellman (Michael Teh), Rhodes was an accommodating “host” providing his prisoner with some Shakespeare to pass the endless hours. This led to Ciara and husband, Ben Weston’s (Robert Scott Wilson) romantic joint Romeo and Juliet dream and helped convince Ben his bride was alive and sending him mystical messages.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but Rhodes wasn’t the most competent of captors. Ciara tricked him into thinking she had fallen suddenly sick, and though he foiled her attempted escape, he accidentally left his phone behind when he hurried off for a Valentine’s Day date; very possibly triggering his demise.

Though the call Ciara managed to make was mainly static, Ben heard his beloved’s voice and, with the help of Ciara’s brother and Salem P.D. detective, Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer), managed to track down the name (and shark tattoo) of the phone’s owner.

The next thing we know, Rhodes is shot mid-sentence, right in front of Ciara, by an unseen gunman. Was it Shawn? Generally not the kind of cop who shoots first and asks questions later, Shawn might not play it so cool when his thought-to-be-dead sister is involved. More likely it would be Ben who grabbed the policeman’s gun and fired. But had the duo really tracked Rhodes down so quickly?

It could be Ben’s father, Clyde Weston (James Read). Clyde had just unearthed some information from newly-involved-in-the kidnapping Orpheus before the shot rang out. Sure, he’s locked up, but we have no idea where this plexiglass room is. Rhodes seemed to have easy access to Vincent until we all learned Vincent “killed himself” (anyone else getting Epstein conspiracy theory vibes here?), maybe this room is attached to the prison…somehow?

Whoever (and wherever they) dunnit, the shot looked pretty fatal and Jason Downs is confirmed to be leaving the series. With Vincent also dying off screen, it means we will no longer have the possibility of seeing Michael Teh again.

A third character has also left Salem. Jennifer Horton isn’t just visiting her brother for a day or two to sort out their mother, Laura’s will. Cady McClain’s tenure as the legacy character has ended and there has been no word from the studio regarding Melissa Reeves reprising her role. It’s anyone’s guess as to how long Jennifer will be gone from Salem and our screens.

Rhodes on the other hand, I don’t anticipate seeing him back!

Watch Days of Our Lives, weekdays on NBC to discover who shot Rhodes and what’s in store next for Ciara now her captor is dead.
