‘The Bachelorette’ spoilers reveal that Trista Sutter has spoken out against the cancel culture in light of Chris Harrison’s decision to step down from The Bachelor amid the Rachael Kirkconnell scandal.
‘The Bachelorette’ Spoilers: Trista Sutter ‘I Don’t Agree With The Concept Of The Cancel Culture’
In an interview on Extra, she went on to say the following: “Despite his actions, I don’t agree with the concept of the cancel culture. As Rachel said on a follow-up segment on Extra, ‘Let’s not label. Let’s not cancel. But let’s hold people accountable for their actions.” Although Trista is close to Chris, she believes that actions have consequences:
“[Chris] should be held accountable for his words and actions. Just because you’re family doesn’t mean you have to agree with the other person’s words or actions. I also had a big problem with the way he dismissed Rachel Lindsay, spoke aggressively, interrupted her, and in my opinion, didn’t give her the respect that she deserves.”
Nevertheless, Trista has vowed to help Chris overcome this. She added: “[I will] give Chris the benefit of the doubt that he will do the work that is necessary during his time away from the show to be better and learn from his mistakes. And they were mistakes. I hate feeling disappointed, especially when it’s in someone that I love and care about. But I have to believe he will do the work, and he will hold himself accountable.
“And if he doesn’t, he’s got Bachelor Nation who will do it for him.” And Chris’ apology should go some way to repairing any damage: “To my Bachelor Nation family — I will always own a mistake when I make one, so I am here to extend a sincere apology. I have this incredible platform to speak about love, and yesterday, I took a stance on topics about which I should have been better informed.
“While I do not speak for Rachael Kirkconnell, my intentions were simply to ask for grace in offering her an opportunity to speak on her own behalf. What I now realize I have done is cause harm by wrongly speaking in a manner that perpetuates racism, and for that, I am so deeply sorry.
“I also apologize to my friend Rachel Lindsay for not listening to her better on a topic she has first-hand understanding of, and humbly thank the members of Bachelor Nation who have reached out to me to hold me accountable. I promise to do better.”
