The members of season 16 of The Bachelorette have come out and spoken on the Rachael Kirkconnell scandal in light of Chris Harrison’s comments.

In a statement posted on Instagram, the cast said: “As members of Season 16 of The Bachelorette, it is important that we acknowledge where we stand at this time. We had the opportunity to be a part of one of the most diverse casts in the history of the franchise. The addition of more people who identify as BIPOC has opened up the conversation on race, community, and who we are as people. A conversation that has been long overdue.”
They continued by stressing the need for unity: “We stand united in denouncing racist behaviour and any defence thereof. We also stand united with the women of Season 25 of The Bachelor, who have denounced the same; moreover, we stand united with Rachel Lindsay, who has let the way.”
This all began after Rachael was accused of having posted racist views. Some of the posts included dressing up as an American Indian and her support for Donald Trump. In addition, Maddy Bierster, a TitToker said: “Girlieeeee, remember when you bullied me in high school for liking black guys???” The backlash forced Rachael to apologize. She told her fans on Instagram:
“While there have been rumours circulating, there have also been truths that have come to light that I need to address. I hear you, and I’m here to say I was wrong. At one point, I didn’t recognize how offensive and racist my actions were, but that doesn’t excuse them. My age or when it happened does not excuse anything. They are not acceptable or okay in any sense. I was ignorant, but my ignorance was racist.” The repercussions have been huge as Chris will be leaving his role on the show.
He said the following in his statement: “The historic season of The Bachelor should not be marred or overshadowed by my mistakes or diminished by my actions,” Harrison, host of the show for almost 20 years, wrote in his statement. To that end, I have consulted with Warner Bros. and ABC and will be stepping aside for a period of time and will not join for the After the Final Rose special. I am dedicated to getting educated on a more profound and productive level than ever before.”
