It appears that she was at her home in Athens, Greece when the accident occurred. It happened at 4 a.m. according to the statement.

Sophie has become incredibly popular because of her support for trans and gay rights. She worked with Madonna in 2015 and helped her to co-produce, “Bitch, I’m Madonna.”

She also did some collaborating with Charli XCX. They worked together on the EP Vroom Vroom. In 2018, Sophie released her debut album, “Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides.” This helped to earn a Grammy nomination for the Best Dance/Electronic Album.

“Sophie was a pioneer of a new sound, one of the most influential artists in the last decade. Not only for ingenious production and creativity but also for the message and visibility that was achieved. An icon of liberation.”

There were many other artists that spoke out on Twitter this week about Sophie’s death. Sam Smith wrote, “Heartbreaking news. The world has lost an angel. A true visionary and icon of our generation.” Sophie’s publicist has asked for fans to give the family privacy and respect during this incredibly tough time.

The trans world has been shaken by this accident and will always look up to Sophie for speaking out about being trans. Sophie said, in 2018, “For me, transness is taking control to bring your body more in line with your soul and spirit so the two aren’t fighting against each other and struggling to survive. On this earth, it’s that you can get closer to how you feel your true essence is without the societal pressures of having to fulfill certain traditional roles based on gender. It means you’re not a mother or a father–you’re an individual who’s looking at the world and feeling the world. And it’s somehow more human and universal, I feel.”
