‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers tell that the thing that you notice about most of the Plath kids is that they don’t really seem to hang out with anyone but other members of their family. They’re friends with their siblings but that is about it.
So it was really good to see Micah hanging out with another dude his own age, apparently, this kid named Ashburn, is someone that Micah met at church a long time ago but he said that while they hung out at church they stopped hanging out when his parents left the church.

He didn’t specify the reason why his family left that particular church, but we can kind of draw our own conclusions there.
Micah said that ever since he had gotten his freedom it had given him the opportunity to actually make friends. It made me smile but it also made me sad at the same time, what kind of parents don’t want their children to have friends?
Of course I’m pretty sure Kim and Barry would deny this if confronted, that they prevented their kids from hanging out with anyone, but the kids have said over and over again that the parents were kind of adamantly against them having friends over and having anything to do with people their own age or people who’s beliefs differed from their own.
Still, it begs the question, what sort of mischief did they think that Micah was going to get into if he went to a skate park?

Ashburn strikes me as a really good kid too, probably heavily into skating and a few more extreme sports, but he definitely does not strike me as the “stoner” type, if that’s what Kim and Barry were afraid of. In fact, Ashburn strikes me as even more straight-edge that Micah in that sense.
Ashburn said that it was Micah who had changed since he knew him, not the other way around. That’s not to say that I think Micah does anything bad, I truly don’t think he does, I just think that he’s, in his words, broadened his horizons so that he doesn’t think so much like his parents anymore, and that’s a good thing. I wonder how many other friends Micah has? Stay tuned!!!
